Hello and welcome to an extensive list of all things travel and location related. Cue your inner rich grandparents, grab your passport and get driving, flying, boating, or whatever it is you do to get around.
The show begins and we're introduced to a random stranger just passing through on his way to Hartford. Hartford is the capital city of the U.S. state of Connecticut. Fun fact: it is home to the Mark Twain House & Museum.
If there is any location you should know about, it's Harvard. This is all they talk about for about the first three seasons of this show. They live Harvard. They breathe Harvard. They borderline worship Harvard. I'm surprised Richard & Emily didn't buy Harvard. Anyways, Harvard is a private Ivy League research university in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Established in 1636 and named for its first benefactor, clergyman John Harvard, Harvard is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States and among the most prestigious in the world. It's no wonder the girls are obsessed with it.
Rory and Dean. Dean and Rory. Their first scene. Aw. To quickly break it down, Dean likes Rory. Rory struggles to communicate. Dean is from Chicago. Oprah. Windy. Located on Lake Michigan in Illinois, Chicago is among the largest cities in the U.S. Famed for its bold architecture, it has a skyline punctuated by skyscrapers such as the iconic John Hancock Center, 1,451-ft. Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower) and the neo-Gothic Tribune Tower. The city is also renowned for its museums, including the Art Institute of Chicago with its noted impressionist and Post-Impressionist works. Makes you wonder why Dean left. Then again, I'd leave anywhere to go live in Stars Hollow.
In this scene, we learn Rory's height, 5'7." That's tall. She's tall. So tall, in fact, that Lorelai jokes they should have her studied at M.I.T. Also known as The Massachusetts Institute of Technology. M.I.T is a private research university in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The institute is a land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant university, with an urban campus that extends more than a mile alongside the Charles River. Half-expecting one of the grants to be gilmored.
At Friday Night Dinner, Richard mentions how well Christopher is doing in California and that his internet startup goes public soon. California is a western U.S. state, that stretches from the Mexican border along the Pacific for nearly 900 miles. Its terrain includes cliff-lined beaches, redwood forest, the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Central Valley farmland and the Mojave Desert. The city of Los Angeles is the seat of the Hollywood entertainment industry. Hilly San Francisco is known for the Golden Gate Bridge, the Oakland Bay Bridge (because one bridge isn't enough), Alcatraz Island and cable cars.
